"If you want to keep getting what you're getting, keep doing what you are doing."
-Les Brown
More than 20 years ago, I was interviewing my friend and longtime Milwaukee news anchor, Ted Perry. I asked him, “Do you have a quote you use for inspiration?”
He said, “The Golden Rule. I’m not really into all these motivational speakers, but Les Brown once had a good line: ‘If you want to keep getting what you're getting, keep doing what you are doing.’ It works both positively and negatively. It’s something I tell my friends when they’re down. If your behavior is producing results you don’t like, change it.”
I loved it then, and I still do.
It’s simple. But it’s not easy.
If you want something different—for yourself or for someone you care about—it starts with changing what you do. No shortcuts. No waiting.
Onward.
