In 2014, I asked Dr. Michael R. Lovell, the then first lay president of Marquette University, a simple question: what’s your definition of success? His answer:
“I think success is the breadth and depth of the impact you make on the lives of others. If you want to be successful, you'd be making a huge impact on the world.”
Dr. Lovell passed away in 2024 after a battle with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He left an amazing legacy as he always lived his definition of success.
How do you define success?
