“The ability to do whatever I want whenever I want wherever I want.”
-Kara Swisher, when I asked her to define success
Authenticity and creative persistence. We need both.
Be you, fully you. But also have the internal drive, when it matters, to be an amplified version of your best authentic self. Not fake - just a little louder, clearer, braver.
And never sacrifice that creative drive within you. That’s the engine.
That’s why I love this definition of success. And, why I love to ask leaders for their definition. I’ve only had one back-and-forth email conversation with Kara, years ago, but her words have stuck with me. A reminder to always define what success means to you and go after it with persistence.
Related, if I may, her new show, “Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever,” is great. It digs into the science, culture, and business of longevity in a sharp, very Kara way. Put it on your watch queue.
Onward.
